Americans the most optimistic they have been in over 12 years

For over 12 years Americans have not been optimistic about the State of the Union.

In fact, January 2004, during the George W. Bush administration, was the last time a majority told Gallup polls that they felt good about the nation’s course.

An April 2016 Gallup poll found that only 26 percent of Americans call themselves “satisfied” with “the way things are going” in the United States, but the election of Trump has completely transformed the way both Republicans and many Democrats view the country, particulary in their assessments of whether its getting better or worse.
