If President Elect Trump’s choice of Sen Jeff Sessions as Attorney General heralds the end of sanctuary cities, as we know them, then his choice of Rep Tom Price as Health Secretary trumpets in the utter annihilation of Obama Care.
Rep Price is as anti Obama care as they get. Said he: “Congressional Democrats and the Obama administration blatantly ignored the voices of the American people and rammed through a hyper partisan piece of legislature that will have a disastrous effect on our nation’s health care system,” after Obama signed the bill in 2010.
Price is an orthopedic surgeon, a six term Republican congressman, a member of the Tea Party, and the chairman of the House Budget Committee. Again Trump picked the perfect guy for the job as Price not only hates big government but he is obsessed with repealing Obama care and replacing it with the plan he has been working furiously on called Empowering Patients First Act. This act he says will take the government out of the doctor patient relationship and opens up coverage to out of state insurers, which will insure premiums, are kept competitively priced.
“The practicing physician and the patient could not have a better friend in that office than Tom Price” said Rep Michael Burgess, also a physician.
Like Trump, who is walking away from his massive business interests to dedicate himself to making
America great again, Price too left a successful practice because he saw that policy decisions affecting his patients were being made in Washington by bureaucrats with no medical training. In a 2009 debate Price described the current administration’s approach as: “a stifling oppressive federal government” which he often refers to as the “vile liberal agenda”.
Like most of Trumps appointees, Price does not come without controversy. He is not a favorite of the Dems as he is a vocal opponent of same sex marriage and federal funding for Planned Parenthood. Sarah Kate Ellis, president of GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) calls him “completely unfit” to be health secretary. Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Democrat from New York says, “Nominating Congressman Price to be H.H.S. Secretary is akin to asking the fox to guard the henhouse”.
